Busy Busy Summer!!!

I am amazed that tomorrow will be July 1st, I am still trying to figure where June went! We have been enjoying the warm days here swimming! Here is my little guy, I think the summer is going so fast because he will start kindergarten this year, I am just not ready for that! Thank you for all of the great feedback on the purse pincushion tutorial, I hope everyone is having lots of fun with that pattern! To answer a few of your questions the fabric I used in the red one is by Alexander Henry and it is called Juicy Bloom! The wonderful pin toppers are by GiGi Minor she has Pinks & Needles on etsy and she form all of the designs by hand, the detail is just amazing!

Hope you are enjoying the summer! Meg

Pretty Little Purse Pincushion Tutorial

Materials Needed:
1- 10" x 6" Fabric Piece for Exterior
1- 10" x 6" Piece Fusible Fleece
1- 5" x 6" Coordinating Fabric for Interior
2- 8" x 2" Fabric Pieces for Straps
Iron
Sewing Machine
Straight Pins
Pencil/Marking Pen
Ruler
Scissors
Hot Glue Gun
Poly fill/fiber stuffing
Rice
Ric Rac or Fun Trims

*Optional but Very Helpful Items
Self Healing Cutting Mat
Rotary Cutter Begin with all of your fabric pieces cut.Iron exterior fabric to fusible fleece. Then fold in half, pin and sew 1/4" straight stitch down each side, back stitch.Trim off corners at the folded end (make sure not to cut into stitching)Fold bottoms corners at the side seam flat and pin into place, with your ruler measure 2" mark with a pen, and sew the 2" box seam. I run my machine forward and back stitch a few times!Snip the corners off.
Turn the body inside out.For the Straps. I use the a double fold bias tape method.
With your 2- 2" x 8" pieces fold long ways in half, iron, then
fold the strip in half so the two folded edges meet. Iron into place. Then run a straight seam to close the edge in place, I add another seam to the opposite side as well! Measuring 1" from each end side seam, position 1 end of the strap and pin into place. Repeat for the opposite side.
Stitch into place. Measure 1" from the top of the bag, fold down and pin into place. Now you can either run a straight stitch or add some fun trims, like ric rac! Do some touch up ironing at this time!Time to stuff!
I like to add a 1/2 cup of rice to the bottom to help weight the pincushion down! Add a nice hand full of poly fill. Taking the 5" x 6" fabric piece of fabric gently fold it down over the poly fill. Take your time and work with it to lay nice and flat! Now with a hot glue gun run a small bead of glue around the top edge to hold fabric in place. Again take your time as you do not want the glue to show!
Add some more fun trims or flowers and you are finished!
This makes a great gift or party favor!

T Shirt/Tank Top Make-Over.......

Take an old or new t shirt or tank top and make it over in to something fun!
Here I started with a plain red round neck tank top!
I found the center and measured 5" down .You can not tell so much from this photo but I pined back the sides 1/2" and stitched in placThen I added pink ric-rac around the opening.
Using wonder under I choose a fun flower and fused it on to the shirt and sketchy appliques around it!Now I have a fun new summer top!Get creative and have lots of fun!

Time flies when your having fun.......

Well I just got back from a mini break vacation with my family, lots of fun! Lets just say after 30 years I thought I would be past getting car sick, well unfortunately not so.....
Anyway I have discovered a great business in the town I live in called the Dresden Junkshun, lots of great vintage & older items in need of some love & care! I have found some great buys and I am becoming addicted to "making over" chairs and other pieces of furniture!

Here is a chair I bought for $10.00!
Some paint and a new fabric covered cushion & I am in love!
This is a wire rack I bought, it was black and painted it aqua with an over lay of green!
I love how the finish turned out!
These I found at a yard sale pink melamine/plastic tea cups all six for $2.00! I see visions of some pretty pincushions in these!
They are just so sweet!
I so need to get on track with my quilt along! I will post more pics soon!
Have a happy day! Meg
