Organza Flower Tutorial

I have been seeing lots of different versions of these fun organza flowers everywhere, so I decided to try out a few! Here are the steps I used to create these fun flowers!
Materials needed:
3-4 colors Organza fabric
thread
sewing needle
scissors
sequins, beads, pearls
heat source/I used a candle
pin backs
sequins, beads & pearls

I started by cutting 12 rough cut circles, 4 each of 3 different sizes

Hold each circle close to the flame so it melts the edges
curling them up.

Stack all of the circles on top of each other, layering

them with the smallest in the center.

Using the thread and needle stitch a few small stitches in the center

in the place where you want the beads to go. Then stitch on the sequins/ beads. Now you are done with the flower!

Now if you like you can stitch a pin back or hair pin to the backside of the flower!

Make a bunch for your friends!

They look great on bags!
Or wear in your hair!
Happy crafting! Meg

My New Sewing Room!

I have been slowly moving in to my sewing room! It is so wonderful to have a room I can call my own! Everything needs to be organized and I am looking for a great way to store all of my fabrics, as they are all still in boxes.
But it is coming along great! I have started to decorate by adding a few things to my room that have a special meaning to me! My grandmother gave me all of her wooden spools of thread, I love them! I found a bubble glass vase to display them in. I cherish the fact she pointed out a few colors and talked about which projects she used them for, it makes them all the more special. I think they look so pretty! This is my DQS8 Mini Quilt, I was super excited to get it in the mail last week! I found a perfect spot on my wall in my new sewing room to display it along with all of my other minis! I ordered this yummy pile of fabrics and I am thinking up some fun project to make.

I will have more photos of my sewing room soon! The rest was way to messy to photograph (haha).

I hope you are all having a wonderful day! Meg

Doll Quilts & More Snow

I have been working on my Doll Quit Swap (DQS8) to send out to my partner and here is what I have come up with! I used some of my AM Horner Good Folks prints and I just love how it turned out! All I have to do is bind it and ship it out!
I finally figured out what fabrics to use for my Quilting Bee The Block Swap. I chose a variety of solids and a few prints. Here are the pretty little piles I shipped out to all of the ladies in my group. My Guide lines were
-lines only no curves please
-I would like 1 of the prints per block
-No raw edges please
-I would like each of the blocks to have some of the charcoal and some of the lime green in them
-Everything else is up to you!
Here are the 2 blocks I made to show the similar style I was looking for!

I am so excited with what they have been coming up with! To see some of the examples check out my flickr gallery HERE. It is going to be very funky and bright quilt I can't wait to see all of the blocks done!
It is still snowing here in Ohio I don't think it will ever end!!!!!
I can't wait for Spring to come.
Hope you have a Happy Weekend! Meg

Hello Out There...........

Here in Ohio we are on our second round of snow for February. I have been "trapped" in my house for almost 2 weeks now, I did get out to grocery shop on Sunday, just before the 2nd storm hit. I think we are up to 18 inches now. The kids have been out of school since Feb 5th and they are off again tomorrow. I am slowly going crazy!!!

On to better things! Did you see what I won! I never win anything and I was super excited to get the message from Stephanie of Jonquils & Ladybugs that I had won her giveaway! I got my lovely package in the mail last week amidst all of the snow and it made my day much brighter! I love the tote it will be my new library tote when I get to go back outside :) I love a good bag of scraps so many possibilities and the yarn is wonderful! Stephanie has a great blog and a lovely etsy shop! Stop by and say hi!
I was also so excited to get my Hope Valley Fabric in the mail today! Jona of Fabritopia is running a sale right now you can get this collection along with some other great designers for 20% off right now through Feb 20th!
So pretty, these will be for a quilt!
I stopped by JoAnns on my Sunday outing and they were having a huge sale so I stocked up on lots of Kona Solids!
And I can never resist when thread is 50% off!!!I do believe these will be for my Block Swap Quilting Bee.These are for a baby quilt. And finally I bought this book I look at it every time I go to the fabric shop so I finally bought it! It has lost of great quilting patterns!

I hope it is warm where you are, though I did see on the news recently there was snow "of some form" in 49 states! Spring can not come soon enough!

The Year for Quilting Bees

I am in 2 great "online" Quilting Bees this year! I am so excited about the great groups of ladies I am working with.

The first group is called Bee Obsessed for this group we each have our own month we provide the them and everyone sends you a block or two based upon your theme using fabrics from their own stash. January was Kimmie and she choose black & white with a touch or red.
Here are the blocks I sent her!

My month is March this is my inspiration mosaic for my theme I would like stars in purple, pink orange and yellow! I can't wait to see what everyone sends me!
The next group is The Block Swap for this group we each have a month and we send out packages of fabrics to each gal and then they make the blocks with the fabric we provide and ship it back.
January was Hope, I love the fabrics she sent, here are the block I made for her. Her Quilt is going to look amazing!

February was Amber, I love her theme! The quilt is going to be for her daughter I can't wait to see how all the blocks come together! This is the block I sent her, I had lots of fun with the tiny house!I choose March for my month for this group as well, though I have no idea what my theme/colors are going to be. I did however just order 12, 1/2 cuts from Denyse Schmidt's Hope Valley Collection!

What is your favorite quilt pattern? Any suggestions.......

Have a Happy Day! Meg

New craft addiction.......

I haven wanted to try to crochet flowers every since I saw this! I never could understand the written instructions then I found this awesome video tutorial on You Tube after watching it about 10 times it finally clicked, now I have a new crafting addiction (like I needed another)!

Anyway I bought some perfectly bright yarns....

They are so much fun to make!

The start to my flower patch collection

Now I am trying to decide if I want to attache these to the tops of granny squares or if I want to try and figure how to crochet the flowers in to squares.

It is crazy the amount of "how to" videos there are on You Tube I never thought to look here before, you can learn to make just about anything you want! All I did was type in crochet flowers in the search and got a whole selection of videos to pick from!

Have a Happy Day! Meg
