Fabric Flower Tutorial

Material needed:

2- 3" x 3" fabric squares
Wonder Under
Iron

Marking pen

scissors

sewing machine

print flower pattern to approx: 3"x3"Iron wonder under on to back side of 1st fabric square,

let cool then remove paper backing and match up 2nd fabric square to

back side of 1st and iron together.

You can use the same fabric print or mix it up!

Referring to flower diagram below:

Take cut out flower and fold in half and pin into place.

Next make a diagonal line with marking pen and

sew in to place back stitch to make sure it will stay.

Then with the tip of a pair of scissors place the point in to

the center of the 3 petals and pull the 5 remaining petals

forward (in-side-out) over the tip of the scissors .

Finished flower should look like this!

You can finish the edges with fray check if you like.

Make as many as you want!

For this flower pin I added a few leaves and hot glued the flowers on to

a cardboard round and covered with felt and added a pin back.

Great to add a little flair to a tote or purse!

For this flower I hot glued them all to a lobster clasp hair clip.

Looks pretty to wear with a sash or attached to a pony tail!

Baby Quilt fit for a Girl..................

When my best friend found out she was having a girl I was very excited! I started right away thinking of the girly fabrics I could use in a quilt, it has been a while since we have had a baby girl around! I found a collection by Moda called Spring Meadow and it fits perfectly in to her new room theme! I was hoping to have the quilt ready by the baby shower but I did not get it finished in time, she is due any day now & it is finished so it will be a gift for my visit to the hospital! I hope she loves it! I can't wait till I get the call!

Jelly Time

I always knew I would be the one in my family to take over the jelly/jam making. I remember how intrigued I was with my grandmother when she would make jelly when we were little how the smell filled the house. We always knew when we went to visit that grandma she would have a new batch ready for us to take home and savor! I knew (well grandma subtly told me) it was time when she came for a visit and brought me a new blender along with Certo and strawberries. Now every time I make a batch it brings back so many wonderful memories, I even call grandma some times while I stir just to reminisce.

My nephew Cam came to me last week and informed me he was out of jelly and I must make some immediately so I thought I would share some photos with you...............

We use a basic cooked Jam recipe but we pure the berries.

The color is beautiful!

My jars never match everyone always brings them back after they are empty for me to refill!

The finished product! Cam has already chosen which ones he will be taking home!

Grommet How To Tutorial

For setting grommets (eyelets) you can use 2 methods

-hammer method (which I use)

-Grommet setter pliers (which I hear are a dream to use

I have just never shelled out the $19.95 to buy a pair)

Here I will show you the method I use:

Tools are grommet setter (consist of 2 pieces)

Grommet (male and female/front and back)

Trace inside of front/male grommet piece on to fabric

*If you are using a canvas fabric I do not use a backing but when

using thinner fabrics I suggest using a heavy weight interfacing to

strengthen fabric or the grommet will likely pull through!

I like to draw a small circle with a pen

Cut out small circle make sure you do not cut too large or the

grommet will pull trough when hammered in place

Place front/male side of grommet through hole on the front side of fabric.

Place on grommet setter disk. Front side down.

(this will likely be heavy plastic or metal it differes on manufacture)

Place back/female side of grommet on to the backside of fabric

over the over the front/male piece .

Place grommet setter on to the back/female side this will fit in to hole.

Now Hammer

(make sure you are working on a hard surface and watch your fingers!)

You will see the grommet has been set when the prongs of the

front/male side fold nicely over the back/female side!

Finished!
